0 How about a thread on reputable watchmakers/repairers/servicers by country? I have used a few in the UK but I'm not able to say that I am married to one in particular. Personally, I would be especially interested to know who people use for vintage quartz watches.

Well, I again recommend my own watchmaker Jan Ubels in the Netherlands - he does it all. He serviced among many other watches my Seiko King Quartz 9223-5000 which had stopped (not a battery problem), running now at 0.1spd. You can find him here: http://www.klokken-ubels.nl

0 In the United States we have got Spencer Klein for our Seiko's... He does a lot of watch videos too. Long waiting list here. He also got interviewed by Worn and Wound here. You can e-mail him here

In the UK, I have used both Stephen Burrage (http://www.rytetimewatchrepairs.co.uk) and Greg at Woodland Technical (http://www.woodlandtechnical.co.uk) without any disasters - but only for simple jobs. If I stumbled across a non-running 3883 at a flea market, I would not know who to approach.

1 For the difficult jobs I once again recommend Jan Ubels.... he has fixed the most mysterious watch troubles using microscopes, lasers and light sabers.. (kidding here). Seriously, the equipment he has invested in... impressive.

My SBGW001 needs to be serviced, and I don't feel comfortable shipping it out to Japan and spending 3 months without it.

I can always ask him on your behalf of course. We have a regular and easy way of contacting each other.

Being born in a country where English isn't spoken, nor actually appreciated much as a language, as a means of information sharing, I've acquired the habit of never assuming anything ! Thanks a lot for the offer, it was very nice of you, I shot an e-mail his way. ;-)

That is unusual, were it not for the fact that the told me last Thursday that he was preparing a stand for a Watch Convention this weekend. So, he will be busy until early next week I think. His usual working days are Mo-Tue-Wed, his shop you can visit on Thu-Fri-Sat. Next week Thursday I will be visiting his shop again, so let me know if I can do anything for you...

Thanks ;-) Well, if you don't mind, my manual-wind Grand Seiko (cal. 9s54) needs a service, but no outer work (it looks new). Approximate lead time and cost are all I'd need to know ! I'll certainly let you know, should I receive any reply from him in the meantime.
